We’re glad to be your local electric cooperative. Appalachian Electric Cooperative (AEC) is prepared to assist you with Commercial/Industrial Service Requests.
All accounts will have a $5 membership. The service charge will be $25 or $50 for a larger service requiring a bucket truck for connection. Deposit amount is calculated based on 2 times the highest bills for the premise with a minimum deposit amount of $300.
The following items are accepted for deposits:
- Cash, check or credit card (credit cards may have fees associated)
- Certificates of Deposit
- Irrevocable Letter of Credit
- Surety Bond

All service request are for at least next day service.
Business ApplicationService for New Construction
All connections for new service are $50* minimum (an additional minimum bill guarantee “ aid to construction” charge may apply to line extensions)
There are additional requirements for establishing service for new construction. To obtain new service the customer is required to:
- Apply for service (Sign a contract and easement)
- Pay a membership and a deposit
- Pay a service charge for new service
- Obtain a state electrical permit (The person responsible for the electrical work should purchase the state electrical permits)
New Service Procedures
At the time service is applied for, our customer service representative will fill out a spot sheet for our engineers. The engineers will then go out and mark the service and note any trimming that has to be done before the job can be scheduled. All grade work must be complete before the temporary service can be spotted.
After our engineers have spotted for the service (temporary or permanent), it is the responsibility of the customer to employ an electrician to complete the wiring. A customer may wire his own property provided his work passes the state inspection.
After the job is completed, it is the responsibility of the customer to notify the state inspector that the job is ready for inspection. If the work passes, the inspector will issue an approved job certificate to the Cooperative and the Cooperative will connect the service as soon as possible. If the service has not been connected within 5 working days after the inspection is made, please call AEC Member Support at (865) 475-2032, Extension 1810.
Service Connection Fee
- Single phase and 3 phase self contained meter: $25
- 3 phase and special meters: $50 minimum
All new services could require an aid-to-construction or engineering charge.

Opening a Business Account
Following are a few things you will need from you in order to open an account:
- Ownership documents are required, as well as 2 forms of identification. One form must be a photo ID.
- Limited Liability (LLC) paperwork
- Business license
- Articles of incorporation of organization
- Employer Identification Number or EIN Letter
- Certificate of Incorporation
- DBA (“Doing Business As”)
- Business meeting minutes
Designating a 3rd Party Business Contact
If you as a business owner would like to give permission to a third party to have authority to transact business on your account, AEC requires the following:
- A statement on your company’s letterhead stating each account number you are giving access to within your organization.
- The representative’s name, date of birth, e-mail address and phone number.
- We may ask for photo identification, as needed. If multiple people will have access to your account, please include a 4-digit pin number in this letter. This pin number is something you create and will be required for anyone who requests information or wants to make changes on your account. We will not complete the request without verification first.
